ISSUE: How to run a demo plot on the HP DraftPro, DXL, and EXL series plotters.
Solution
  1. Load a piece of paper.
  2. Load the pen carousel, with the appropriate pens loaded in at least positions 1-4.
  3. Press the front panel’s 'P1' and 'P2' buttons simultaneously. ('P1' and 'P2' are used for positioning the lower left and upper right corners, respectively, of the drawing.)
ISSUE: What does it mean when the VIEW light flashes on the HP DraftPro, DXL, EXL plotters (the indicator light is next to VIEW button at the bottom lower left corner of the front panel).
Solution
The VIEW light usually indicates a general error state. It could be triggered by a communication or programming problem. Follow communication troubleshooting guidelines to resolve the problem (see page 2-8 of the DraftPro DXL, EXL User Guide for more details).
ISSUE: Interface options available on the HP DraftPro, EXL, and DXL plotters.

  • Parity = none.
  • Eavesdrop = not in eavesdrop mode (eavesdrop used when connecting with mainframes and dumb terminals with plotter in between them).
  • Pen sort = used to optimize how plotter selects which pens to use and when to use them.
  • 9, 10, 11 = for service use only.
Refer to the User’s Guide for other Baud and Parity settings.
note:
Always remember that after making any rear-panel dipswitch changes, turn the plotter off and on again.
ISSUE: The pen and media combinations supported by the HP DraftPro series plotters.
Solution
The following pen and media combinations are supported.
  • Translucent, vellum and polyester film with drafting pens.
  • Transparency film with fiber-tip pens (not supported on the HP DraftPro plotter)
ISSUE: What happens if a specific type of pen is used in the wrong carousel?
Solution
When the wrong carousel is used, pens will not fit properly in the caps and they will dry out sooner.
ISSUE: Using rollerball pens on the HP DraftPro series plotters.
Solution
Rollerball pens require more force applied by the plotter to work correctly; more force than is required for use of the fiber-tip, refillable or disposable pens. The HP DraftPro series plotters do not have an adjustable force option.
PEN SPEED
ISSUE: How to adjust the pen speed on the HP DraftPro, DraftPro DXL and DraftPro EXL plotters.
Solution
The HP DraftPro series plotters have adjustable pen speeds through a series of keystrokes on the front panel.
  1. Press the PEN SPEED button. The yellow light to the left of the button will flash.
  2. Press the PEN SELECT button corresponding to the pen speed desired. This will set ALL pens to that speed. Refer to page 2-4 in the HP DraftPro plotter User’s Guide or page 2-6 in the HP DraftPro DXL / EXL plotter User’s Guide for speed settings.
The default is 40 cm/s. The range of speeds for the HP DraftPro plotter is from a minimum of 5 cm/s to a maximum of 40 cm/s, and for the HP DraftPro DXL/EXL plotter the range is from 5 cm/s to 80 cm/s. The recommended speeds are:
PEN FORCE
ISSUE: Can the pen force be adjusted on any of the HP DraftPro series plotters?
Solution
SETTING OVERRIDES
ISSUE: If the pen speed in the software application and the HP DraftPro, DXL or EXL plotter front panel settings are different, what will happen?
Solution
If pen speed can be set in the software, it will override the speed settings set on the front panel. If the software does not have the option to set pen speed, then the speed set on the front panel will stay in effect.
ISSUE: The types of media that can be used on the HP DraftPro, DraftPro DXL and DraftPro EXL plotters.
Solution
Use the following media on the HP DraftPro series plotters.
  • Vellum
  • Transparencies
    note:
HP transparencies are not supported on the HP DraftPro plotter because the HP transparencies are 'A' size only, and the HP DraftPro plotter cannot plot on 'A' size.
The sizes listed below are .ANSI, Architectural and ISO (A4 - A0) page sizes.

Hp Plotter Models

ISSUE: The media sizes that can be used on the HP DraftPro plotter (7570A).
Solution
  • Lengths from 15.75' (400 mm) to 39.37' (1000 mm)
ISSUE: The media sizes that can be used on the HP DraftPro DXL plotter (7575A).
Solution
  • Widths from 8.07' (205 mm) to 19.09' (485 mm) and 21.85' (555 mm) to 25.39' (645 mm)
HP DRAFTPRO EXL plotter (7576A)
ISSUE: The media sizes that can be used on the HP DraftPro EXL plotter (7576A).
Solution
  • Widths from 8.15' (207 mm) to 24.96' (634 mm) and 28.70' (729 mm) to 36.50' (927 mm)
  • note:
The HP DraftPro EXL plotter will support 30 by 42 (the 'other' E size) if it has a serial # of 2920 or higher.
ISSUE: The kinds of pen carousels that are available for the HP DraftPro series plotters.
Solution
  • 07570-60055 for Refillable/disposable drafting pens.
ISSUE: Changing the power on the plotter to take it to another country.
Solution
The plotters support 100V to 240V. The power option can be changed only by an authorized service personnel. The correct power cord will be necessary for the country of destination.
ISSUE: Digitizing with the HP DraftPro, DraftPro DXL and DraftPro EXL series plotters.
Solution
This will require software that supports digitizing. Most software packages that support digitizing require that the plotter have a digitizing sight loaded. There are two digitizing sights available for the HP DraftPro series plotters:
  • 07585-60191 angled sight
  1. When the light to left of the enter button is lit but not blinking, use the cursor controls to position the dot in the digitizing sight directly over the point to digitize.
  2. Press Enter to send the point to the computer. Depending on the software’s requirements, press a key such as return on the computer’s keyboard.
MEMORY ISSUES
ISSUE: The built-in buffer sizes on the HP DraftPro, DraftPro DXL and DraftPro EXL plotters.
Solution
  • HP DraftPro/ DraftPro DXL/ DraftPro EXL plotters - 31 KB (upgradable)
ISSUE: Adding memory to any of the HP DraftPro series plotters.
Solution
The HP DraftPro DXL and EXL plotters have user-installable memory cards that are installed in the slot provided at the rear of the plotter. There is no memory upgrade for the HP DraftPro plotters.
  • 17574A - 2 MB
    note:
The HP DraftPro/DXL/EXL plotters, were discontinued on April 1, 1993. Memory cards are still available while supplies last.
ISSUE: Using additional memory and HP-IB at the same time on the HP DraftPro DXL or EXL plotters.
Solution
This is not possible. Both options use the same installation slot and only one option can be installed at a time.
ISSUE: The margin settings for the HP DraftPro, DraftPro DXL, and DraftPro EXL plotters.
Solution
39 mm
left, right, trailing edges
0.6 inch
31 mm
left, right, trailing edges
0.2 inch
note:
The 'leading edge' is the front end of the paper at the front of the plotter. The 'trailing edge' is the back end of the paper that hangs out the back of the plotter.
Using expanded margins can cause the pinch wheels to roll over where ink has been laid down on the plot. The pinch wheels may track the ink around the drawing.
ISSUE: Obtaining more plottable area on the paper loaded on an HP DraftPro series plotter so drawings are not clipped.
Solution
Change rear-panel dip switch 8 from '0' to '1.' Turn the plotter off and then on again after the switch has been changed to ensure that the plotter recognizes the change.
ISSUE: When using AutoCAD and one of the HP DraftPro series plotters, how to make sure that the drawing is not 'clipped' along the edges.

Hp 7470a Plotter

Solution
clipping with AutoCAD is experienced when a standard media size is selected through the software. The 'standard' plotting area in AutoCAD is larger than the one allowed by the plotter. To avoid this, input the actual plotting dimensions in place of the media size. For example, take the actual dimensions of the media and subtract both plotter margins and approximately 0.3' (8 mm) to account for media measurement variation.
ISSUE: Putting the pen away on an HP DraftPro, DraftPro DXL and DraftPro EXL plotters.
Solution
HP DraftPro/ DraftPro DXL/ DraftPro EXL plotters - Press ENTER and the button for the pen number to return to the carousel (the pen number is defined by its stall number in the carousel). The plotter will then return the pen to that stall number of the carousel.
note:
The software command to put the pen away is 'SP0;'.
ISSUE: Rotating a drawing through the front panel.

Hp 7470a Plotter Emulator

Solution
Press ROTATE on the front panel and the plotter will rotate the drawing 90 degrees counterclockwise. Press rotate again and rotate will be turned off. A drawing cannot be rotated more than 90 degrees.
